His writings have appeared on the opinion pages of the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune. He is a former radio broadcaster, having served as a news director, disk jockey, and sports announcer for several radio stations in Ohio. Mr. Emerson is host of the Addy-Award winning Cable TV news magazine "Performance Moves." He has traveled nationally as a professional photographer, specializing in industrial photography. He has worked as a journeyman in construction and design and dabbles in bronze as a sculptor.
During Company E's first 30 months, Mr. Emerson has led the Company and its artists on Concert and education programs, most often in partnership with the US Deparment of State, around the world many times, with major partnerships forged with artists and organizations alike in countries as diverse as Kazakhstan, Italy and Belarus. Forging the Company's identity in international engagements and cross-cultural partnerships, he has built sister company relationships with Samruk Dance Company in Almaty, Kazakhstan, ImPerfect Dancers in Pisa, Italy and as a founding member of the international Dancing Partners consortium crafted by Thomas Noone Dance of Barcelona, Spain.
Since its June 2011 founding in the Amazonian Reserve of Tambopata, Peru, the Company and its artists have worked in Argentina, China, Chile, Peru, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmeninstan, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and beyond.
At home Mr. Emerson has led the partnerships created with Embassies of foreign nations in Washington, building relatioships which have led to season-long celebrations of the choreographers of Israel and Spain in 2012/2013 and now of Italy in 2014.
During Mr. Emerson tenure CityDance created one of the largest and most successful education outreach programs in the region, CityDance Early Arts and CityDance DREAM, launched CityDance FilmWORKS, opened the CityDance Centers at Strathmore and Mt. Vernon Square and in 2010 the new partnership with the DC Dance Collective in Washington, DC. He guided CityDance through nine international concert tours between 2003, traveling to a dozen countries. CityDance Ensemble's final artistic engagement before the Company was disbanded was in Peru under the invitation of the US Department of State.
In 2006, Mr. Emerson received the Pola Nirenska Award for Artistic Excellence in Dance. His God children Aidan and Nathan are his real pride and joy.
