Company E awarded the Kennedy Center's Local Dance Commission for 2012-2013 Season
February 13, 2012

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has awarded Company E one of only two dance commissions for Washington area artists for the 2012-2013 concert season. The award, for Company E's new, evening-length program for young audiences, makes a milestone for the new Company.

"Making work for young people -- and for the young-at-heart -- is something very close to our hearts, notes Paul Emerson, Company E's Executive Director and one of the Company's three co-founders with Kathryn Pilkington and Jason Garcia Ignacio. The Company, formedin late June 2011 has worked internationally throughout its first nine months performing, teaching, choreographing and serving as a Cultural Ambassador to US Embassies in countries around the world.

"The Kennedy Center commission follows our earlier work on 'Jungle Books' continues Emerson. Now we turn to Cervantes and the classic tales of Don Quixote. But with a twist. This is a show where DQ never actually appears. Its the story of DQ as seen through the lives and eyes of Sancho and Dulcinea. We called it 'Sancho, Dulcinea their Knight and his Quest."

The program, a part of Company E's season-long partnership with the Embassy of Spain, the Washington Performing Arts Society, the Shakespeare Theatre Company and now the Kennedy Center celebrates the art of Spain across ages, geography and, now, centuries.
